Terrorismo internacional: o caso da Al-Qaeda

Abstract

Pierre-Marie Dupuy propõe, na sua obra State Sponsors of Terrorism: Issues of Responsibility, 109 eventuais definições de «terrorismo» (Dupuy, 2004: 5). A dissertação tenta responder à questão: «O que é o «terrorismo»?» no pós-Guerra Fria. Em 1991, com a implosão do império soviético a dinâmica no xadrez mundial alterou-se. Poderá também ter influenciado as práticas terroristas? A dissertação centra-se num grupo terrorista específico, a Al-Qaeda, o qual ficou mundialmente conhecido após o ataque de 11 de setembro de 2001 nos EUA. As suas atividades violentas serão escrutinadas da sua génese até aos nossos dias; e avaliadas ao nível das consequências que tiveram.

In his book State Sponsors of Terrorism: Issues of Responsibility, Pierre-Marie Dupuy proposes 109 possible definitions of “terrorism” (Dupuy, 2004). This dissertation attempts to answer the question: “What is terrorism?” in the post-Cold War era. In 1991, with the implosion of the Soviet empire, the dynamics of world chess changed. Could this also have influenced terrorist practices? The dissertation will focus on a specific terrorist group, Al-Qaeda, which became worldly known after the September 11, 2001 attack in the USA. Its violent activities will be analyzed from beginning to the present days; as well as their consequences.
