Crimes de ódio no futebol

Abstract

O futebol é um dos desportos mais populares a nível mundial, reunindo inúmeros adeptos que acompanham diversos campeonatos aos níveis nacional e internacional. A par dessa popularidade, tem-se verificado que este desporto tem sido palco de diversos registos de crimes de ódio (Cerrahoğlu, 2016). A título de exemplo, em 1992, quando Aaron Mohammed Winter (ex-jogador de futebol) assinou um contrato com a Lazio (um clube de futebol italiano), a frase “não queremos preto, nem judeu” apareceu inscrita no muro da sede desse clube. Este tipo de discursos também tem sido proferido no âmbito do futebol, em Portugal. O episódio vivido por Moussa Marega é um dos casos mais mediáticos no que diz respeito a esta matéria. O jogador foi insultado e agredido no decorrer de um jogo, em 2020, abandonando o relvado por essa razão. O objetivo geral desta dissertação é compreender este tipo de discursos dirigidos a jogadores do futebol português, os quais remetem para crimes de ódio racial. Em termos empíricos, esta pesquisa centra-se na análise de notícias na imprensa nacional que fazem referência a atos de violência e, discursos ofensivos dirigidos a jogadores de futebol. A amostra que é objeto desta análise foi construída após a avaliação do universo de notícias, que correspondem ao supramencionado. Trata-se de uma pesquisa cuja metodologia é qualitativa e recorreu-se à análise de conteúdo como método privilegiado da análise de dados recolhidos.

Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world, with many fans following various national and international championships. Along with this popularity, it has been observed that this sport has been the scene of several hate crimes (Cerrahoğlu, 2016). For example, in 1992, when Aaron Mohammed Winter (a former soccer player) signed a contract with Lazio (an Italian soccer club), the phrase "we don't want black, we don't want Jew" was inscribed on the wall of the club's headquarters. This type of speech has also been made in the soccer world in Portugal. The episode experienced by Moussa Marega is one of the most publicized cases in this regard. The player was insulted and assaulted during a match in 2020, leaving the pitch for that reason. The general objective of this dissertation is to understand this type of discourse directed at Portuguese soccer players, which refers to racial hate crimes. What is sought is the following: "How is the racial hate speech used by Portuguese soccer fans composed?" In empirical terms, this research focuses on the analysis of news in the national press that refer to acts of violence and offensive speeches directed at soccer players. The sample that is the object of this analysis was built after the evaluation of the universe of news, which correspond to the aforementioned. This is research whose methodology is qualitative and content analysis was used as a privileged method of analysing the data collected. Therefore, this dissertation highlights cases in which soccer players were the target of racial hate speech in the exercise of their profession.
