Abstract: The development of sustainability policies implies a wide range of interventions by Local Authorities including policies and projects aiming to promote forestry protection, water conservation, sewage management and renewable energy in order that the new European Directives will be implemented. As an example, this is the case of the new Directives on Energy including the new regulation (183/2019) about the consumption of energy by the public buildings which have to become “Nearly Zero Energy Buildings”. The authors have studied the online marketing of Portuguese Local Government to pursue such policies through the promotion and participation of independent societies and groups committed to support sustainability in each municipality.
