| pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | This study aimed to understand the relationship between parental anxiety and affect and attachment, thereby understanding parenting style. The sample consisted of 60 pairs of participants, each consisting of an adult (caregiver) and the child under their care, totaling 120 people involved in the study, with an average age of 41.28 years for adults and 10.4 years for children. The instruments used in the study were the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAIT-T), the Affect Scale (AS), the Parenting Styles Scale (EMBU-P), the Attachment Scale (VAS), the State Anxiety Inventory (STAI-C), the Affect Scale (AS), and the Parenting Styles Scale (EMBU-C). The main results show that caregivers' state anxiety did not have significant effects on the dimensions of affect and parenting styles. However, the affect-communication dimension showed a positive and significant effect, demonstrating that more communicative and emotionally available caregivers tend to promote more secure attachment relationships. Among the children, it was also found that affection and communication maintained a positive effect, while paternal rejection had a significant negative effect on attachment. Overall, the results point to a model in which parental anxiety plays an indirect role, influencing affection and parenting practices, which, in turn, modulate the quality of attachment. The study highlights the relevance of the issue, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the interactions between emotional, relational, and contextual factors within the family. | pt_PT |
