Assim, a articulação entre o passado, a intervenção no presente e a imaginação do futuro constitui o eixo fundamental desta investigação. This doctoral thesis aims to investigate the relevance of Afrofuturism – a term coined by American Mark Dery – and cultural intersections and hybridism to contemporary architecture in Angola. The thesis highlights the urgency of exploring the potential of utopian thinking as a tool of imagination for designing future solutions. Such solutions, which focus on the field of architecture, must necessarily absorb the social, urban and symbolic complexities that constitute what we call the "new Angolan urban body". As a basis for abstract thinking, the thesis points to Angolan literature and a philosophical corpus of African origin. It is in this literature and this corpus that we believe the intellectual and scientific cartography necessary to reinterpret the notion of identity lies. In this study, dialogue between the various historical layers of the Angolan cities studied will be important, since we have identified a morphological and temporal disarticulation present in many post-colonial urban centres. This disarticulation results in contemporary architecture that, in certain cases, lacks identity and is decontextualised. Therefore, it is urgent to rescue the collective memory of communities and safeguard the integrity of the city's different eras in order to promote coherent and sustainable urban development, both in material and immaterial terms. Thus, the articulation between the past, intervention in the present, and imagination of the future constitutes the fundamental axis of this research. Finally, an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary methodology is proposed, culminating in a practice geared towards the materialisation of a potential "Angolan futurism". |
