The pursuit of beauty often transcends the mirror, reflecting emotional desires, needs for acceptance, and the construction of self-esteem within a society shaped by image. This exploratory study aims to investigate the motivations that lead women to undergo aesthetic procedures, as well as to examine comparisons and associations among the variables under study. Data were collected through an online questionnaire designed to assess these factors. The sample consisted of 102 female participants, aged between 18 and 65 years. The methodological plan included the administration of five instruments: a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, the Appearance Schemas Inventory, and the Social Media Addiction Scale. The results suggested a significant negative correlation between difficulties in emotion regulation and self-esteem, as well as significant positive correlations between difficulties in emotion regulation, digital impulsivity, and negative social consequences. It was also observed that women who had previously undergone aesthetic procedures showed greater difficulties in emotion regulation compared to other groups. Regarding motivations for undergoing aesthetic procedures, most participants reported the intention to improve their overall appearance. It is concluded that emotional and psychosocial factors significantly influence the decision to undergo aesthetic procedures, highlighting the need for a clinical and ethical perspective on such choices.
