Regular physical exercise has been increasingly recognized as a key factor in promoting mental health, often being associated with significant benefits for psychological well-being, emotional regulation, and the reduction of symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress. The present study aims to investigate the relationship between regular physical exercise and mental health, as well as mood states. This study included 101 young adults (58 females and 43 males) aged between 19 and 29 years. The instruments used were a Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Profile of Mood States Questionnaire, and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale. The results indicate a significant association between mental health and mood states. Significant differences were found regarding gender and physical exercise practice, with males scoring significantly higher than females in terms of the intensity at which physical activity is performed. Additionally, significant differences were observed between sociodemographic variables and mental health and mood state variables. The findings showed that the greater the number of hours of sleep, the perceived social support, and the intensity, frequency, and engagement in training, the higher the levels of mental health and positive mood states.
