This study arises as a consequence of Vladimir Putin's visit to Mongolia in September 2024, as he raised, in our opinion, an important question: whether international criminal law can meet the demands of Realpolitik. We believe it is necessary to begin this study by analyzing the institution in question, the ICC, highlighting its historical background, characteristics, structure and, perhaps most importantly, the crimes that fall within its jurisdiction. This will be followed by an analysis of the institution often cited as the greatest obstacle to the ICC's jurisdiction: the immunities of Heads of State, in order to analyze, first of all, whether or not there has been a breach of the obligations assumed by Mongolia. Having analyzed this reality, it is time to discuss another of the fundamental concepts for this study, Realpolitik. Having made this digression, it is now time to delve deeper into the case of Vladimir Putin, specifically reflecting on its similarities with the case of Omar Al Bashir, and the conclusions we can draw from Putin's movements regarding the pending arrest warrant, specifically to answer the question posed here. It is also worth dedicating a chapter of this study to the consequences that may arise for Mongolia from its failure to comply with its obligations under the ERTPI. Having made this reflection, it is time to turn to the results of Vladimir Putin's case, as we believe that, despite everything, it is possible to draw some positive conclusions. Once all this work has been done, it will be time to conclude with some final reflections on this entire analysis.
