Retrofit como perspectiva de sustentabilidade arquitectónica

Abstract

Esta dissertação propõe uma investigação abrangente sobre o conceito de retrofit na arquitetura, numa análise comparativa entre Brasil e Portugal. Pretendemos compreender as origens do retrofit, desde sua conceção na indústria aeroespacial até sua adaptação no contexto arquitetónico, analisando como essa prática evoluiu para se tornar uma modelo na preservação e renovação do patrimônio construído. O estudo apresenta uma revisão crítica da literatura, abordando teorias fundamentais relacionadas ao retrofit, seu desenvolvimento histórico e sua atual relevância global. A análise comparativa entre as práticas de retrofit no Brasil e em Portugal concentra-se em estudos de caso, selecionando projetos que destacam abordagens inovadoras, desafios e soluções novas. A dissertação explora a relação intrínseca entre retrofit e sustentabilidade urbana, destacando a capacidade dessa prática capaz de promover eficiência energética, redução de emissões de carbono e a reutilização de recursos. A análise de políticas públicas relacionadas com abordagens de retrofit em ambos os países oferecem perspetivas sobre o ambiente regulatório e seu impacto na promoção de práticas sustentáveis.

This dissertation proposes a comprehensive investigation into the concept of retrofit in architecture, in a comparative analysis between Brazil and Portugal. We aim to understand the origins of retrofit, from its conception in the aerospace industry to its adaptation in the architectural context, analyzing how this practice has evolved to become a model in the preservation and renewal of the built heritage. The study presents a critical review of the literature, addressing fundamental theories related to retrofit, its historical development, and its current global relevance. The comparative analysis of retrofit practices in Brazil and Portugal focuses on case studies, selecting projects that highlight innovative approaches, challenges, and new solutions. The dissertation explores the intrinsic relationship between retrofit and urban sustainability, highlighting the ability of this practice to promote energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and reuse resources. The analysis of public policies related to retrofit approaches in both countries offers insights into the regulatory environment and its impact on promoting sustainable practices. Additionally, the research includes the perspective of key stakeholders through interviews and consultations, providing a deeper understanding of perceptions, challenges, and opportunities related to retrofit. The application of specific sustainability indicators and analysis of technical and economic feasibility complement the investigation, offering a holistic view of retrofit as a sustainable urban design strategy.
