Influência do clima escolar sobre as competências socioemocionais

Abstract

As competências socioemocionais são uma vertente principal no desenvolvimento dos indivíduos. Visto que a escola é um dos locais onde as crianças passam mais tempo, é de ressaltar a importância de programas socioemocionais na escola de forma que os alunos ganhem capacidades de relacionamento, capacidade para gerir situações complicadas, de tomar decisões corretamente, de serem empáticos e de perceberem quais são os seus papéis na sociedade. Apesar disto, o treino destas competências dentro do clima escolar pode ser influenciado pela estrutura da escola, pelas relações dos professores, funcionários e staff escolar entre si, pelas relações dos membros escolares com os alunos e ainda pela maneira como os alunos se relacionam entre si. O presente estudo assume como objetivo perceber a forma como o clima escolar pode influenciar as competências socioemocionais. Participaram nesta investigação 311 alunos do 3º ciclo de 3 diferentes escolas de Portugal Continental, nomeadamente a E.B. 2/3 Freiria e a E.B. São Gonçalo pertencentes ao município de Torres Vedras, na região centro de Portugal, e a E.B. 2/3 de Vizela pertencendo ao distrito de Braga, sendo assim situada no norte de Portugal. Os alunos tinham idades compreendidas entre os 11 e os 16 anos (Midade = 12.61, D.P. = 0.83), 149 do sexo feminino (47.9%) e 162 do sexo masculino (52.1%).Para a recolha de dados neste estudo, foi utilizado Questionário de Avaliação de Competências SocioEmocionais (Coelho et al., 2015; Coelho & Sousa, 2016) e a versão portuguesa do Delaware School Climate Survey- Students (DSCS-S) (Bear et al. 2011; Coelho et al. 2020). As análises realizadas permitiram concluir que existem diferenças significativas entre a relação professor-aluno, a relação aluno-aluno e a existência de regras com o autocontrolo, assim como diferenças significativas entre a relação professor-aluno com a tomada de decisões responsáveis e entre a relações aluno-aluno com as competências relacionais. No entanto, no que concerne a segurança na escola com as competências relacionais e com a consciência social não houve diferenças significativas. No geral, pode-se dizer que o clima escolar tem uma influência nas competências socioemocionais e que a presente investigação contribuiu para o aumento do conhecimento empírico.

Given that school is one of the places where children spend the most time, it's important to emphasise the importance of socio-emotional programmes at school so that students gain the ability to relate, manage complicated situations, make correct decisions, be empathetic and understand their roles in society. Despite this, the training of these skills within the school climate can be influenced by the structure of the school, the relationships between teachers, staff and school personnel, as well as the relationships between school members and pupils and the way pupils relate to each other. The aim of this study was to understand how the school climate can influence socio-emotional competences. A total of 311 3rd cycle students from 3 different schools in mainland Portugal took part in this research, namely E.B. 2/3 Freiria and E.B. São Gonçalo belonging to the municipality of Torres Vedras, in the central region of Portugal, and E.B. 2/3 de Vizela belonging to the municipality of Torres Vedras. 2/3 de Vizela belonging to the district of Braga, thus located in the north of Portugal, aged between 11 and 16 years old (Midade = 12.61, D.P. = 0.83), 149 female (47.9%) and 162 male (52.1%).For data collection in this study, the Socio-Emotional Competence Assessment Questionnaire (Coelho et al., 2015; Coelho & Sousa, 2016) and the Portuguese version of the Delaware School Climate Survey- Students (DSCS-S) (Bear et al. 2011; Coelho et al. 2020). The analyses carried out led to the conclusion that there are significant differences between the teacher-student relationship, the student-student relationship and the existence of rules with self-control, as well as significant differences between the teacher-student relationship with responsible decision-making and between the student-student relationship with relationship skills.However, there were no significant differences between safety at school, relationship skills and social awareness. Overall, it can be said that the school climate has an influence on socio-emotional competences and that this research has contributed to increasing empirical knowledge.
