Abstract

A utilização disseminada e o alcance global dos sistemas do Inteligência Artificial (doravante, IA), muito mais do que a sua mera existência, justificam uma reflexão e incursão sobre dimensões principialistas, revisitando, em particular, o conceito de princípio de per se, a problematização da Justiça enquanto princípio e convenção humana, bem como a sua fundamentalidade na construção de sistemas de IA. Destarte, o presente ensaio propõe um itinerário contemplativo e reflexivo, primeiro, sobre o ser humano, enquanto organismo vivo, e a relevância da paz e da justiça na luta pela sobrevivência; segundo, a justiça enquanto princípio e enquanto convenção humana; e, terceiro, problematização da justiça e da ética considerando os principais desafios colocados pelos sistemas de IA. Por se considerar a relevância, a montante, da construção de um enquadramento teórico destas questões à luz da Dignidade da Pessoa Humana, enquanto resposta aos desafios do mundo actual e caminho para a Justiça Social, o presente ensaio propõe um caminho de reflexão e debate demorados em torno de conceitos abstractos (v.g., como princípios, justiça e ética), ao invés da apresentação, imediata, de propostas concretas suscetíveis de conceder operacionalidade prática aos princípios estudados, aplicando-os aos sistemas de IA. O silêncio resultante da ausência de uma reflexão e abstracção demorada sobre estes temas poderá, eventualmente, ser preenchido pelo ruído de respostas superficiais, mas aparentemente definitivas porque velozes, talvez sugeridas pelos sistemas de IA, talvez mais próximas dos interesses dos seus criadores do que de uma construção desinteressada da Dignidade da Pessoa Humana e da Justiça Social. Sabendo que, no final, tudo resultará das escolhas humanas.

The widespread use and global reach of Artificial Intelligence (henceforth, AI) systems, much more than their mere existence, justify a pondering and incursion into the principles dimensions, revisiting, particularly, the concept of principle per se, the problematisation of Justice as a principle and as a human convention, as well as its fundamentality in the construction of AI systems. Thus, this essay proposes a contemplative and reflective itinerary, firstly, on the Human being, as a living organism, and the relevance of Peace and Justice in the struggle for survival; secondly, Justice as a principle and as a Human convention; and, thirdly, problematisation of Justice and ethics considering the main challenges posed by AI systems. By considering the primary relevance of building a theoretical framework for these issues in light of the Human Being Dignity, as a response to the challenges of today’s world and a path to Social Justice, this essay proposes a path of lengthy pondering and debate on abstract concepts (such as principles, justice and ethics), instead of the immediate presentation of concrete proposals capable of granting practical operability to the principles studied, applying them to AI systems.
