The Government, which is now coming to an end, planned to launch the first offshore auction in Portugal by the end of last year, with the recommendation of the Working Group created for this dossier, that the first bid make available up to 3.5 Gigawatts (GW) of capacity to be installed off Viana do Castelo, Leixões and Figueira da Foz. The Sines and Ericeira areas should only advance at a later stage. This article discusses whether it makes sense for the country to advance offshore wind. |
