Diálogo entre a memória e a contemporaneidade : a Reabilitação da Casa do Mirante de Monforte, Alentejo

Abstract

A presente dissertação pretende, como foco central, refletir sobre o papel da memória na intervenção no Património Arquitetónico e definir uma metodologia de intervenção adequada no mesmo, uma vez que o património é considerado como o elemento identitário de cada território, ou seja, uma memória física, verdadeira e visível que conecta o passado ao presente. Assim, a investigação refere-se ao estudo e à compreensão de uma componente teórica de intervenção e à respetiva metodologia capaz de intervir num objeto arquitetónico, tendo como base o papel imprescindível da memória e o impacto que este tem na sociedade, definidas através de alguns estudos de referências teóricas, históricas e doutrinárias (cartas, convecções e recomendações) e entrevistas. Num momento seguinte, recorremos a casos práticos que fundamentam a teoria estudada. É mediante este estudo que se estabelece a abordagem principal deste trabalho, através da compreensão da forma como se adaptam e/ou confrontam os princípios de intervenção contemporânea ao contexto histórico pré-existentes e, simultaneamente, a memória do objeto perdura. A consolidação destas teorias e aplicações práticas constituem os princípios de intervenção no caso de estudo, de modo a adaptá-lo às novas realidades com a manutenção da sua identidade, procurando assim, contribuir para a discussão da validade da aplicação destes princípios, não apenas na procura da perdurabilidade da memória e das verdades formais e construtivas características do Alentejo, como no incremento da economia local através do reuso turístico da casa tradicional urbana Alentejana. Assim, por meio de uma operação de reabilitação conseguimos estabelecer um diálogo entre a memória e a contemporaneidade, contribuindo para a perduração do património como elemento memorativo.

This dissertation's main purpose is to reflect on the role of memory in the intervention in the Architectural Heritage and to define an appropriate intervention methodology in it, since the heritage is considered as the identitative element of each territory, that is, a physical memory, true and visible that connects the past to the present. As such, this research refers to the study and understanding of a theoretical component of intervention and the respective methodology capable of intervening in an architectural object, based on the essential role of memory and the impact it has on society, defined through some studies of theoretical, historical and doctrinal references (letters, conventions and recommendations) and interviews. Following that, we turn to practical cases that support the theory studied. It is through this study that the main approach of this work is established, through the understanding of how they adapt and/or confront the principles of contemporary intervention to the pre-existing historical context and, simultaneously, the memory of the object endures. The consolidation of these theories and practical applications constitute the principles of intervention in the case study, in order to adapt it to new realities while maintaining its identity, thus seeking to contribute to the discussion of the validity of the application of these principles, not only in the search for the perdurability of memory and the formal and constructive truths characteristic of the Alentejo, as well as in the improvement of the local economy through the tourist reuse of the traditional urban Alentejo’s house. Thus, through a rehabilitation operation, we were able to establish a dialogue between memory and contemporaneity, contributing to the permanence of heritage as a memorial element.
