Impressão espacial em arquitectura : o som na forma e no espaço

Abstract

Esta dissertação é um estudo sobre a relação entre a forma do objecto arquitectónico e o som no espaço, sobre como é que se influenciam e em que medida é que são dependentes, ou seja, qual o papel da forma do espaço na nossa percepção acústica e qual o papel do som na nossa impressão espacial. Centramos a tónica deste trabalho na percepção do fenómeno arquitectónico pelo habitante do espaço. Em concreto, no papel essencial do som na percepção da atmosfera do espaço no seu carácter de totalidade. Abordaremos as propriedades físicas do fenómeno sonoro e o seu papel na definição e orientação espacial para demonstrar a relação íntima da acústica com a geometria. Faremos uma leitura comparada da progressão histórica da arquitectura e do fenómeno sonoro, na sua expressão musical e religiosa. O percurso narrativo que seleccionámos passará ainda pelo estudo de obras que consideramos demonstrativas desta relação, como a Berliner Philarmoniker, a Igreja das Três Cruzes em Imatra, e o Blossom Music Center. Em território nacional, abordaremos a Igreja de Águas em Penamacor e a Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. Este trabalho tem como finalidade servir de introdução ao tema da relação entre arquitectura e som e do potencial que traz à prática do ofício da arquitectura, procurando actuar como ponte, demonstrando a unidade daquilo que por conveniência técnica separamos em saberes artísticos e científicos distintos.

This paper is a study on the relation between the form of the architectonic object and sound in space, about how they influence each other and in what degree are they dependent, that is, what is the role the form of space plays in our acoustic perception, and the role of sound in our spatial impression. We center the tonic of this study in the perception of the architectural phenomenon by the dweller of the space. Specifically, in the essential role sound plays in our atmospheric perception of space in its character of totality. We'll look into the physical properties of sound and their role in defining and orienting us in space to demonstrate the intimate relation between acoustics and geometry. The narrative course we've selected will take us trough the study of works we consider are demonstrative of this relation, works like the Berliner Philarmoniker, The Church of the Three Crosses in Imatra and the Blossom Music Center. In national territory we'll look into the Igreja de Águas and Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. This study has the purpose of serving as an introduction to the topic of the relation between architecture and sound and the potential it has to the work of the architect, looking to act as a bridge, uniting what e've separated for technical convenience into distinct artístic and scientific areas.
