O património industrial, entre a tradição e a inovação : reabilitação e ampliação da Central Termoelétrica do Freixo

Abstract

A presente dissertação centra o seu estudo sobre o património industrial dos finais do seculo XIX, até à década de trinta do século XX em Portugal, tendo por base o estudo dos conceitos de inovação e de tradição associados à construtividade. São estes que permitem compreender os valores singulares deste tipo de edifícios e atribuir-lhes um caráter patrimonial. O processo de pesquisa tem por base a recolha de documentos históricos, textos, obtidos com visitas ao Arquivo Histórico do Porto, fotografias, cedidas pela fundação EDP, livros, fontes e autores de referência, tais como João Mascarenhas com o seu livro “A História da Construção em Portugal, Alinhamentos e Fundações, Juan Domingos Santos com o livro “La Tradición Innovada”, entre outros. Após a investigação realizada torna-se fundamental preservar o património industrial que existe no país, pois são exemplares únicos que transpõem o reflexo dos valores tradicionais, articulados com as inovações técnicas. Os valores tradicionais tornam-se importantes, pois imprimem um cunho identitário da construção em Portugal, tornando-o distinto das demais características construtivas internacionais.

This dissertation focusses its study on the industrial heritage of the late nineteenth century until the thirties of the twentieth century in Portugal, based on the study of the concepts of innovation and tradition associated with constructivity. These are what allow us to understand the unique values of this type of equipment’s and give them a heritage character. The research process is based on the collection of historical documents, texts, obtained through visits to the Arquivo Histórico Municipal do Porto, photographs, donates by the Fundação EDP, books, sources, and reference authors, such as João Mascarenhas with his book “A História da Construção em Portugal, Alinhamento e Fundações”, Juan Domingos Santos with the book “La tradición Innovada”, and others. After the investigation carried out, it is essential to preserve the industrial heritage that exists in the country as they are unique examples that transpose the reflection of traditional values articulated with technical innovations. Traditional values become important because they imprint as identity of construction in Portugal, making it distinct from other international construction characteristics.
