A reabilitação do neoclassicismo : o palácio na lezíria do Tejo

Abstract

O Palácio das Obras Novas é um exemplo de arquitetura Neoclássica de Portugal, marcando profundamente a história do lugar da Vala Real na lezíria do Tejo. Atualmente está abandonado e em avançado estado de degradação, surgindo a oportunidade, através de um projeto de reabilitação, de fazer uma investigação sobre a intervenção neste tipo de património e na sua envolvente, desde as questões teóricas e conceptuais, às construtivas. O principal objetivo desta investigação é estudar a relação entre o seu passado, o seu presente e o seu futuro, percebendo as características da arquitetura Neoclássica em Portugal e salvaguardando os valores que estão associados ao edifício, através de uma metodologia adequada para intervir numa ruína arquitectónica de estilo Neoclássico. Deste modo, começamos por estudar a história do local, do Palácio e da arquitetura Neoclássica em Portugal, para perceber tais valores implícitos e posteriormente descobrir de que forma se deve executar a reabilitação de uma ruína com esses mesmos valores e características únicas. Complementamos a teoria através de uma análise a edifícios que, ao longo do tempo, tenham sido intervencionados, quer apenas na fachada, quer no seu interior, contudo, nunca esquecendo os seus valores e salvaguardá-los sempre que possível. Por fim é apresentada uma proposta de intervenção para o nosso caso de estudo de forma a preservar o que ainda resta de si, valorizando e enaltecendo os seus valores históricos e arquitectónicos.

The Obras Novas Palace is an example of Neoclassical architecture in Portugal deeply marking the history of Vala Real in the Tagus marshland. It is currently abandoned and in an advanced state of degradation giving rise to the opportunity through a rehabilitation project to carry out an investigation into the intervention in this type of heritage and its surroundings from theoretical and conceptual to constructive issues. The main objective of this investigation is to study the relationship between its past present and future understanding the characteristics of Neoclassical architecture in Portugal and safeguarding the values associated with the building through an adequate methodology to intervene in an architectural ruin of Neoclassical style. Thus we start by studying the history of the place the Palace and Neoclassical architecture in Portugal to understand these implicit values and later discover how to carry out the rehabilitation of a ruin with these same values and unique characteristics. We complement the theory through an analysis of buildings that over time have been intervened either only on the façade or inside however never forgetting their values and safeguarding them whenever possible. Finally we present an intervention proposal for our case study in order to preserve what is still left of itself valuing and extolling its historical and architectural values.
