Uma intervenção no património moderno português : caso de estudo : o mercado do Louro do arquiteto Januário Godinho

Abstract

Resumo: Numa época em que a longevidade da produção moderna portuguesa é posta em causa pela falta de manutenção ou até mesmo pela intervenção desadequada, a presente dissertação trata uma intervenção num património moderno recente, apresentando como caso de estudo o mercado do Louro do arquitecto Januário Godinho. Sendo que o mercado espelha as características da sua época, o estudo e enquadramento da arquitectura portuguesa do século XX foi fundamental, principalmente num momento tão distinto do contexto internacional e com um regime ditatorial que não permitia a liberdade de criação dos arquitectos. A falta de classificação das obras modernas portuguesas obriga à realização de uma abordagem consciente e ponderada, cujo reconhecimento dos seus valores é essencial para compreender o modo de actuar sobre o construído, assim como a identificação das metodologias de intervenção mais adequadas e os critérios que permitem a sua salvaguarda. Revisitar o património moderno português significa reconhecer o seu valor inigualável. Conhecer as limitações económicas e sociais do desenrolar do século XX, que moldaram a forma como se fazia arquitectura, foi a génese da compreensão do estudo. Para complementar a informação, realizou-se o estudo da documentação possível, o levantamento e análise das suas patologias e, por fim, uma reflexão sobre a complexidade da intervenção. A reabilitação é a solução defendida para a reintegração do mercado na rotina da cidade.

Abstract: Nowadays the longevity of modern Portuguese production is undermined by the lack of maintenance or even inadequate intervention, this dissertation focus on an intervention in a recent modern heritage, presenting as a study case the Louro’s market by the architect Januário Godinho. Since the study case reflects the characteristics of its time, it was essential to study and frame the modern movement in Portuguese architecture, especially at a time so different from the international context and with the dictatorial regime that did not allow the freedom for architects creativity. The lack of classification of Portuguese Modern works obliges the realization of a conscious and thoughtful approach, whose recognition of its values is essential to understand the way to act on the constructed, as well as the identification of the most appropriate intervention methodologies and the criteria that allow their safeguarding. Revisiting the modern heritage means recognizing its unparalleled value. Knowing the economic and social limitations of the twentieh century, that shaped the way architecture was done, was the genesis to understand the study case. To complement the information, a study was performed, as well as a survey and analysis of the pathologies and, finally, a reflection on the complexity of the intervention. Rehabilitation is the advocated solution for the reintegration of the market into the city’s routine.
