Title: Barcelona versus Maurilia
Author: Ángel Domínguez, Luis
Issue Date: 2011
Abstract: We propose a critical reflection towards the speculation and manipulation that can bring with politics, in the field of architecture and urbanism, leading to solutions that have so little to do with the main purpose of the whole city, the “living”. How, from the sociology, are we warned from the danger that supposes an unhistorical society, based on the flux of the society network? On what is founded the idea of city to guarantee his own balance and continuity? Thanks to the example of the city of Barcelona, that contains in its urban shape the numerous prints of its virtues and defects, we are trying to demonstrate the dangers of forgetting the collective memory and the story of the place. We, architects and urban planners, should fit with the historical continuity, having a responsible behaviour towards our profession, understanding always the architectural design and the urban planning as a dialogical mechanism in relation with the society and the environment.
