Arquitectura das quintas do Douro : área classificada de Património da Humanidade no concelho de Lamego

Abstract

Resumo: A região demarcada do Douro combina a morfologia do vale do rio Douro e cobertura vegetal natural com a ação contínua do Homem, adaptando o espaço, às suas necessidades, desde a ocupação romana à atualidade. A presente dissertação tem como objeto de estudo as quintas do Douro, na área classificada como Património da Humanidade e estuda a problemática entre a sua conservação e a sua modernização. Esta modernização foi despoletada pela produção industrializada de vinhos e pela necessidade de adaptar as quintas a novos usos, nomeadamente turísticos e industriais, para assegurar a sua sustentabilidade. A análise elaborada, assenta num estudo inicial de contextualização das quintas do Douro, para compreensão do seu enquadramento e evolução, passando pela análise da tipologia-tipo e organização territorial das mesmas. Paralelamente, foi efetuado um levantamento das quintas, com elementos de interesse arquitetónico, na área classificada como Património da Humanidade no concelho de Lamego, culminando com o caso de estudo da quinta do Vale de Abraão. Este trabalho permite constatar a particularidade das quintas durienses, como resultado de uma cultura, desprovida de preocupações formais e mais atenta às especificidades locais, mas que, atualmente sofrem perdas irreparáveis, com as constantes alterações e ampliações efetuadas, tendo como objetivo a sustentabilidade das quintas, num claro ato de desentendimento, entre a história da arquitetura e a reabilitação do património.

Abstract: The demarcated region of Douro combines the morphology of the Valley of Douro River and the vegetal and natural covering with the continuous action of man adapting the space to his needs since the Roman ocupation to the present. The object of study of this dissertation is the study of some farrns in Douro in area classified as Human Heritage and studies the problematic between its conservation and its modernization. This modernization has been originated by the industrialized production of wines and by the need of adapting the farms to new uses, specifically those related to tourism and industrial ones in order to assure their sustainability. The analysis that has been elaborated is based on an initial study of contextualization of the farms in Douro to understand their framing and evolution, and an analysis of the typology-type and territorial organization of the farms of Douro. In parallel it has been done a survey of the existing farms with architectural elements of interest in the classified area of the municipality of Lamego, culminating with the study case of “Quinta do Vale Abraão”, This work allows us to notice the particularities of the farms in Douro as a result of a culture without formal concerns and paying attention to local specificities suffering irreparable losses nowadays with the constant alterations and enlargements that have been done, having as purpose the sustainability of the farms in an obvious act of misunderstanding between the history of architecture and the rehabilitation of the heritage.
