Arquitectura em segunda mão : tipologias industriais na cidade do Porto

Abstract

A presente dissertação visa o estudo de estruturas industriais devolutas, tendo como universo de estudo a cidade do Porto, e a consequente possibilidade de se desenvolver uma Arquitetura em segunda mão, para colmatar a problemática de excesso de estruturas, abandonadas e degradadas, na cidade. Para melhor compreender o universo de estudo, expõe-se uma resenha histórica do crescimento e desenvolvimento da cidade e da indústria portuense. Expressa-se a importância e a quantidade de edifícios industriais abandonados na cidade do Porto, realizando um inventário desses imóveis, contendo o seu registo fotográfico e algumas informações primordiais. Esses edifícios são apresentados e localizados nas respectivas freguesias, de modo a perceber a sua distribuição na cidade, salientando a sua interligação com o próprio desenvolvimento da cidade e de sua indústria. Procuram-se, também, conhecer os várias motivos que contribuíram para o seu encerramento e como chegaram ao presente estado de abandono. Demonstram-se algumas estratégias e propostas possíveis de intervenção em estruturas industriais devolutas, de modo a conseguir a sua recuperação, reabilitação e reintegração na malha urbana. Ilustram-se essas propostas com exemplos reais de anteriores intervenções nesta tipologia de imóveis, tanto no panorama nacional como internacional. Estas propostas, abrangem várias posturas relativamente à salvaguarda do património industrial. Verifica-se que através destas intervenções foi possibilitada a reintegração de edifícios industriais na vida contemporânea da cidade, respondendo simultaneamente às necessidades locais e à consequente preservação do património. Constata-se que na cidade do Porto os testemunhos edificados no âmbito de atividades industriais são frequentemente descurados e constantemente afastados dos planos de reabilitação urbana, apesar de apresentarem um número significativo na cidade e continuarem a retratar os imensos vazios no seio da malha urbana.

This thesis aims to study te unoccupied industrial structures, with the universe of study the city of Oporto, and the consequent possibility of developing a Second hand architecture to tackle the problem of excess structures, abandoned and degraded in the city. To better understand the universe of study, is exposed to a historical review of te growth and development of the city of Oporto and its industry. To express the importance and the amount of abandoned industrial buildings in the City of Oporto, is realized an inventory of these properties, containing its photograph record and some critical information. These buildings are presented and located in the respective parishes, in order so understand their distribution in the City, ernphasizing its interconnection with the very developmcnt of the City and its industry. We intend to also know the various reasons that contributed to their closure and how they came to this state of disrepair. Demonstrate a few possible strategies and proposals for intervention in vacant industrial structures in order to achieve their recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration into the urban. These proposals are illustrated with real examples of previous interventions for this type of property, both in the national and international. These proposals cover various positions on the protection of industrial heritage. lt appears that these interventions was made possible through the reintegration of industrial buildings in the contemporary life of te city, while responding to local needs and the consequent preservation of heritage. lt is noted that in Oporto testimonies built as part of industrial activities are often overlooked and constantly away from the urban renewal plans, despite presenting a significant number in te city and continue to portray the immense voids within te city.
