The iron architecture from Porto is strong for its eclecticism and monumentality, it represent one of the anchors for the tourist movement in the Ribeira of Porto, and one of the most greatest pole of attraction. Designated an Unesco World Heritage City, delimited by the historic area, dotted by old alleys and sidewalks, demarcated by medieval buildings and modern buildings, suffered urban transformations during the twentieth century. From this transformations, we highlight the Ferreira Borges Market, the Former Stock Exchange Palace, the Luis I Bridge, the Gare S. Benedict Station and the Alfandega Building, which was recently recovered by the coordenation of the architect Souto Moura, that´s a place of many events and exhibitions in the city. These works, with the changes that have been suffered over the years mark the old city and adorned by the values and principles of his time with the influence of international models, especially British and French models. The methodological basis of this work focused on literature (books, doctoral theses, newspapers and scientific journals). Photographic records were also made in the study local by making a comparison between the bibliographic records, and the photographic records drawings. We can summarize this work in 6 keywords: iron architecture, appeared in the nineteenth century with the industrialization, beginning in architecture with the universal exhibitions in London, Paris and Porto. Introduces modular construction and the ability to architectural works as sculptural. With industrialization arrive the foundry factories to the city of Porto, with the development and improvement of the art of blowing iron, were produced beautiful works of architecture with designs never before achieved in iron. Grilles, spread through the city on the facades of buildings, with modular designs or repetitive, and customized to the client's taste. The ornaments give the iron architecture greater prominence by works artistically worked, as an example we have the store windows. Recover is possible, although the nineteenth century foundries no longer exist, is possible regain the iron elements, such as the Society of Industrial Foundry in Gondomar. And lastly, rehabilitate. Where the proposed to rehabilitate the elevations of residential and commercial building, with cast-iron elements, gain in consistency. We believe that this work will serve to show the beauty of this architecture, which we hope will remain for many years the various decorative elements presented, also serve as a stimulus for recovering pieces, which contribute so much to demonstrate this art of iron working
