Reconversão de espaços industriais : caso TABOPAN

Abstract

Nos últimos anos, a reabilitação de edifícios e/ou espaços industriais tem sido vista de uma outra perspetiva, tendo em conta o estado atual de abandono e degradação destes espaços nas cidades. A correta compreensão dos conceitos de Arqueologia e Património Industrial conduziu a uma modificação na filosofia de pensamento, levando à sua preservação na cidade. Os edifícios industriais, antigamente situados nas periferias das cidades, devido às necessidades de expansão encontram-se agora nos centros urbanos. A reconversão e a reabilitação de edifícios industriais são estudadas de modo a voltar a reintegrar estes espaços com interesse arquitetónico e histórico na cidade, dando-lhes uma nova função. A pesquisa que está na base da elaboração desta monografia teve como objetivo o entendimento relativo dos processos e conceitos de reconversão e reabilitação, com vista à preservação. Os espaços industriais reconvertidos a novos usos potenciam as suas funcionalidades e, permitem ainda, a preservação da sua herança histórica e arquitetónica. No projeto de reconversão, procedeu-se ao estudo do edifício e da sua história e ao levantamento da zona em questão, com o objetivo de perceber qual o novo uso a atribuir. Assim, o ensaio projetual efetuado na antiga e histórica fábrica TABOPAN será visto como um novo polo dinamizador, impulsionador do desenvolvimento da cidade e da economia através de um centro patrimonial, cultural e empresarial, chamado Multiusos TABOPAN.

Abstract: In most recent years, building and industrial space rehabilitation has been regarded in a whole new way due to the current state of abandonment and degradation in which these spaces are found within the cities. The correct understanding of the concepts of Archeology and Industrial Patrimony has led to a change of the thought philosophy, which, in turn, led to its preservation in the city. Industrial buildings used to be placed in the outskirts of town, however, due to urban growth, they are now found in urban centers. The reconversion and rehabilitation of industrial buildings are studied so as to reintegrate these architectural and historical valued spaces in the city, with a new focus. The research that supports this monograph is directed towards the understanding of the reconversion and rehabilitation processes and concepts, regarding preservation. The reconversion of industrial spaces to new uses enhances their functionalities and, furthermore, allows for the preservation of their historical and architectural heritage. A study of the building and its history and a survey of the area were conducted, during the reconversion project, so as to better understand what new use to give to the building. Thereby, the essay based on the project conducted on the age-old and historical TABOPAN factory will be seen as a new driving force behind the development of the city and the economy, by means of a patrimonial, cultural and business center called Mutiusos TABOPAN.
