Abstract:
This study aimed to examine the relationship between cloninger biopsychosocial model of personality and psychological reactance in adolescents. This study analyzed 1542 subjects aged between 12 and 18 including. For the data collection was used a socio-demographic questionnaire, Hong Psychological Reactance Scale, Dowd Therapeutic Reactance Scale and also included the Robert Cloninger TCI-J personality test. The results showed the existence of significant associations between personality and reactance in adolescents. The results showed the existence of significant associations between personality dimensions and reactivity in adolescents; positive associations between resistance and novelty seeking, self-transcendence and its facets, and negative associations between reactance and harm avoidance, and reward dependence, persistence, determination and cooperation in the Hong psychological reactance scale. Regarding Dowd´s therapeutic reactance scale, the results showed positive associations with novelty seeking, self-directedness and self-transcendence, a negative association with harm avoidance and no relation to reward dependence, persistence and cooperation. These results suggest that the two reactance scales assess different phenomena and that the dimensions of the psychobiological model of personality are significantly correlated with Hong´s psychological reactance scale and partially correlated with Dowd´s therapeutic reactance scale.
