Abstract: Esta dissertação centra-se no estudo da Arquitectura Termal e na sua importância para o desenvolvimento regional sustentado dos lugares a que pertence, servindo de alavanca para o crescimento económico local. Este recurso termal está presente ao longo de todo o território português, contribuindo para o bem-estar físico e psíquico, desde o período pré-romano até ao contemporâneo. Ao longo destes séculos sobressai a evolução do entendimento do papel da água, dos equipamentos e das técnicas de exploração da água termal. No território de Melgaço, situado na região mais setentrional de Portugal, encerra-se o parque termal do Peso, de águas termais de características únicas. Apresenta-se como um território pleno de recursos geológicos, hídricos e paisagísticos, que sempre se afirmaram como factores de desenvolvimento sócio-económico, cultural e recreativo, representando, deste modo, o elemento fundamental para a escolha deste tema. A análise de complexos termais de referência portugueses e europeus, a nível programático, de organização e tectónica, contribuiu para a construção de um programa mais sólido e completo que visa responderás actuais procuras de coordenação do termalismo clássico com as técnicas de bem-estar e terapias alternativas contemporâneas. A recuperação e revitalização do parque termal do Peso será projectada com base na estratégia de desenvolvimento para o Peso, na análise de linguagens de intervenção no património, no estudo do enquadramento ao existente e no projecto de recuperação com uma nova abordagem, ao nível dos percursos no parque, programa termal, água e luz, que pretende reflectir este estudo com objectivo na protecção e valorização do património termal como elemento capaz de gerar desenvolvimento regional sustentado e contribuir para a manutenção da identidade da própria tipologia termal junto das gerações futuras.
Abstract: This dissertation focuses on the study of Thermal Architecture and its importance for the sustainable regional development and to the places where it belongs, serving as a lever for local economic growth. This thermal resource is present throughout the portuguese territory, contributing to the physical and mental well-being, since the pre-roman period until the contemporary. Throughout these centuries developments excel in understanding the role of water, equipments and exploration techniques of thermal water. The Melgaço territory located in a northern region of Portugal, inserts in the thermal park of Peso, thermal waters of unique features. Presents itself as a territory full of resources, geological, hydric and greenery, which always claimed as factors of socio-economic, cultural and recreative development, representing, thus the fundamental element for the choice of this theme. The analysis of portuguese and european reference thermal complex, about programmatic, organization and tectonics, contributed to build a more robust and complete program that aims to respond to the current demands of coordinating classic spa with well-being techniques and alternative therapies. The refurbishment and revitalization of the thermal park of Peso will be projected on the basis of the development strategy for Peso, the analysis of intervention languages in heritage, the study of existing framework and the refurbishment project with a new approach at the leveI of pathways in the park, spa program, water and light, which is intended to reflect this study with objective on the protection and enhancement of the thermal heritage as an element capable of generating sustained regional development and contribute to the maintenance of the identity of thermal typology among future generations.
