Guiné-Bissau : a incontornável sensação de "déjà vu"

Abstract

Este artigo aborda o golpe militar de 1 de Abril na Guiné-Bissau. A primeira secção descreve os factos por detrás do golpe assim como as reacções internas e internacionais. A secção seguinte avalia as possíveis implicações, nomeadamente quanto às perspectivas futuras do processo de reforma do sector de segurança, bem como o compromisso da Guiné-Bissau na luta contra o tráfico de droga. A terceira secção aborda os esforços da comunidade internacional na gestão da crise. A secção seguinte oferece algumas recomendações quanto à forma como a comunidade internacional deve reagir aos acontecimentos de 1 de Abril. O artigo termina com algumas reflexões sobre o futuro imediato da Guiné- Bissau.

This article analyzes the military coup in Guinea-Bissau on 1 April. The first section describes the facts behind the military coup, as well as the domestic and international reactions. The next section assesses the possible implications of the military coup, namely regarding the future prospects of the SSr process, as well as Guinea-Bissau’s commitment towards the fight against drug trafficking. The third section analyzes the efforts of the international community regarding the management of the crisis. The next section offers a few policy recommendations regarding how the international community should react to the events that took place on 1 April. The article ends with a few reflections about Guinea-Bissau’s immediate future.
