| Resumo: | Climate change has profound effects on human life. Different states and communities have different levels of vulnerability and adaptability to the effects of climate change, and among the most vulnerable states are island countries, particularly the smaller ones. Climate change has specific effects that manifest themselves in the area of human security. Many small island states have already witnessed the forced displacement of human communities. These migration flows occur fundamentally at three levels: (i) intra-island; (ii) inter-island; (iii) and between islands and continental regions. The individuals involved in these flows are referred to as migrants/climate refugees, concepts that are still little discussed and clarified in academic circles. There are various strategies adopted by these states to adapt to the effects of climate change. In this paper we will only analyze two of them. On the one hand, the use of artificial islands as a substitute for the original territory. On the other, the state's digital transition to the metaverse. We will also see that in both cases there are obstacles to these modalities in the fight against climate change and in maintaining the building of a sovereign state. |
