The recurring haze crisis in Southeast Asia, caused mainly by forest fires, has become a major environmental issue, with a particular impact on human security in the region. This paper examines the complex dynamics of the haze problem, which transcends national borders, affecting not only the countries of immediate origin, but also neighboring states. By framing the haze in the wider context of environmental insecurity and human security, the study highlights the economic, health and political implications of this environmental catastrophe. In addition, the study highlights the regional efforts made through the ASEAN cooperation framework, analyzing the challenges faced in addressing transboundary pollution, including the limits of institutional capacity, the lack of coordination and the ineffectiveness of deterrence measures. Ultimately, the study highlights the need for stronger regional collaboration and more effective governance to ensure environmental sustainability and the protection of human security in Southeast Asia. |
