Um prenúncio de fim de uma ordem mundial : uma perspetiva realista neoclássica sobre a posição portuguesa perante a crise da Abissínia

Abstract

O propósito desta investigação é realizar um estudo de caso sobre a posição portuguesa durante crise da Abissínia, tendo a lente teórica do Realismo Neoclássico das Relações Internacionais como referência metodológica. A aplicação da teoria realista neoclássica vai permitir explicar o porquê da posição assumida do governo de Lisboa, tendo como objetivo de estabelecer a existência de uma conexão entre as condicionantes domésticas e a pressão sistémica do sistema internacional na qual Portugal se insere. As principais conclusões obtidas neste estudo de caso mostram que a decisão portuguesa foi influenciada pelas condicionantes internas e a estrutura do sistema internacional, tendo em consideração a capacidade portuguesa e os interesses portugueses naquele momento histórico em particular.

The purpose of this investigation is to carry out a case study on the Portuguese position during the Abyssinian crisis, using the theoretical lens of Neoclassical Realism of International Relations as a methodological reference. The application of neoclassical realist theory will make it possible to explain the reason for the position taken by the Lisbon government, with the aim of establishing the existence of a connection between domestic constraints and the systemic pressure of the international system in which Portugal is inserted. The main conclusions obtained in this case study show that the Portuguese decision was influenced by internal constraints and the structure of the international system, considering Portuguese capacity and Portuguese interests at that historical moment.
