Azulejo : um véu de brilho e cor em Fafe

Abstract

A cidade de Fafe, onde habito, deve parte da sua identidade às casas de brasileiro, de grande dimensão, construídas durante o séc. XIX. Estes palacetes são maioritariamente revestidos a azulejo, revelando um grande valor cultural que distingue o centro desta cidade, dado as fachadas imponentes que os azulejos policromados definem. A investigação que iremos realizar será sobre os revestimentos azulejares da cidade de Fafe, produzidos desde meados do séc. XIX até às primeiras décadas do século XX. Com esta investigação, pretendemos contribuir para o entendimento da importância destes azulejos no contexto histórico-cultural da cidade, alertando para a necessidade da sua preservação enquanto património cultural. A investigação procurará identificar os revestimentos existentes na cidade, a sua origem, técnica de execução e sua aplicação, demonstrando os seus valores. Para além disso, pretende-se igualmente avaliar o seu estado de conservação, através da análise de diversos fatores típicos destes revestimentos e as soluções técnicas para a sua conservação e restauro, no contexto da reabilitação do património construído contemporâneo. Por fim, pretende-se ainda observar um conjunto de intervenções levadas a cabo e o seu impacto na estética e no património da cidade, e a sua relação com os princípios de conservação do património.

The city of Fafe, where I live, owes part of its identity to the large Brazilian houses, built during the 19th century. XIX. These palaces are mostly covered in tiles, revealing a great cultural value that distinguishes the center of this city, given the imposing facades that the polychrome tiles define. The research we will carry out will be on the tile coverings in the city of Fafe, produced since the mid-20th century. XIX until the first decades of the 20th century. With this investigation, we intend to contribute to the understanding of the importance of these tiles in the historical-cultural context of the city, highlighting the need for their preservation as cultural heritage. The investigation will seek to identify the existing coverings in the city, their origin, execution technique and application, demonstrating their values. Furthermore, it is also intended to evaluate their state of conservation, through the analysis of several factors typical of these coverings and the technical solutions for their conservation and restoration, in the context of the rehabilitation of contemporary built heritage. Finally, we also intend to observe a set of interventions carried out and their impact on the city's aesthetics and heritage, and their relationship with the principles of heritage conservation.
