A obra de Charlotte Perriand e a utilização da fotografia como processo instrumental para o desenvolvimento de uma identidade arquitetónica

Abstract

A presente dissertação tem como objetivo entender a relação entre a arquitetura e a fotografia, havendo um foco maior em perceber de que modo é que a fotografia poderá ser, bem pensada, um processo instrumental para uma identidade arquitetónica. Ou seja, como é que uma imagem pode ajudar no desenvolvimento do processo arquitetónico. Estudaremos a interligação do trabalho de Charlotte Perriand com o panorama arquitetónico da época e qual o impacto da sua obra na contemporaneidade. Por conseguinte, iremos compreender a relação que Perriand tinha com Le Corbusier e Pierre Jeanneret, uma vez que ela colaborou com estes arquitetos mais de dez anos e foi ela que ajudou a trazer modernidade ao equipamento dos espaços interiores, principalmente ao nível do mobiliário. Foi esta colaboração entre os três que fez com que os espaços interiores se qualificassem, isto porque passou a haver uma coerência absoluta entre a arquitetura, o espaço interior e o mobiliário — o que não acontecia, anteriormente, do mesmo modo, nos projetos de Le Corbusier. Foi em conjunto com Charlotte Perriand que Le Corbusier e Pierre Jeanneret criaram o projeto “L’équipment d’intérieur de l’habitation”. Por fim, veremos como é que a fotografia para Charlotte Perriand, em particular, se tornou num instrumento no desenvolvimento da arquitetura assim como no desenho de mobiliário, uma vez que ela inovou este campo.

This dissertation aims to understand the relationship between architecture and photography with a major focus on understanding how photography can be, well thought out, an instrumental process for an architectural identity. That is, how an image can help in the development of the architectural process. We will study the interconnection of Charlotte Perriand’s work with the architectural panorama of the time and what is the impact of her work in the contemporaneity. Therefore, we will understand the relationship that Perriand had with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, since she collaborated with these architects for more than ten years and it was she who helped bring modernity to the equipment of the interior spaces, especially in terms of furniture. It was this collaboration between the three of them that made the interior spaces qualify because there became an absolute coherence between the architecture, the interior space and the furniture — which did not previously happen in the same way in Le Corbusier’s projects. Together with Charlotte Perriand, Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret created the project “L’équipment d’intérieur de l’habitation”. Finally, we will see how photography for Charlotte Perriand, in particular, became an instrument in the development of architecture as well as furniture design, since she innovated this field.
