This research focused on the study of Stress and Burnout, considering the challenges to Social Work and social workers in the health area, especially in the current pandemic context. The main goal of this study is to analyse the factors of stress and burnout in social workers in the health during the COVID-19 pandemic, identifying their impacts on practice, as well as the stress management strategies adopted. In the methodological field, we choose a qualitative approach for data collection and processing, through semi-structured interviews with 14 social workers working in the health in different areas of Portugal and with different cases of COVID-19 incidence. Data categorization and interpretation was carried out through categorical content analysis. The results obtained allowed us to verify that the pandemic produced adjustments in the dynamics of health services and in the working methodologies of social workers. Other consequences were shown in the relationship between professionals in the teams themselves, professionals, and users, and between users and families. Another relevant aspect refers to both the political and institutional measures and guidelines that ended up not being efficient in their response, since most of them were not contributed by social workers. On the other hand, the creation of new responses and ways of working within the context of the pandemic crisis stands out, with Social Work being a fundamental field against the pandemic effects. Regarding this scenario, it is concluded that the stress felt by the professionals was already a reality before the COVID-19 pandemic, with an increase in this period and which may lead to burnout syndrome. Finally, the strategies to combat and minimise stress in the work context are presented, referring to the need for practice supervision, the prioritisation of tasks and the importance personal, family, and professional life balance.pt_PT
