Um estudo da arquitetura algarvia : tradição, modernidade e atualidade

Abstract

A seguinte dissertação pretende ter um melhor entendimento da Arquitetura Popular Algarvia, desde os seus primórdios à atualidade. De como a sua localização geográfica e condições climáticas influenciaram a arquitetura como nós a conhecemos. Pretendemos fazer um estudo dos métodos construtivos tradicionais, os seus materiais e técnicas e de como evoluiu para a arquitetura contemporânea. Também entender elementos que ainda são atualmente utilizados, indagar sobre as origens da arquitetura popular no algarve e quais as suas características. Importante será também aprofundar as relações entre o Movimento Moderno e o desenvolvimento da zona Sul do País, referindo exemplos de arquitetos com obra construída no Algarve como, Manuel Gomes da Costa, Manuel Maria Laginha e António Vicente Castro. E a partir da Arquitetura Popular, relacionar e entender a arquitetura atual e contemporânea, expressada nos casos de estudo escolhidos.

The following dissertation aims to have a better understanding of Algarve Popular Architecture, from its beginnings to the present. How its geographical location and climatic conditions influenced architecture as we know it. We intend to study the traditional construction methods, their material and techniques and how it evolved into contemporary architecture. Also understand elements that are still used today, inquire about the origins of popular architecture in the Algarve and what are its characteristics. It will also be important to deepen the relation between the Modern Movement and the development of the southern part of the country, referring to examples of architects with built in Algarve, such as Manuel Gomes da Costa, Manuel Maria Laginha e António Vicente Castro. In addition, we will also try to relate and understand the process from traditional architecture to the current scene of the contemporary movement with five studies cases chosen by us.
