(Re)habitar o bairro operário : a reabilitação da Ilha da Capela

Abstract

A presente dissertação traduz-se na investigação sobre a forma de como intervir no património arquitetónico em ruína, mais concretamente num conjunto habitacional da cidade do Porto, denominado de “ilha”, e, perceber de que modo estas podem ser adaptadas ao habitar contemporâneo. Para tal, foi necessário um estudo das características das “ilhas” para dessa forma perceber quais as melhores ações e modelo de intervenção a impor perante este património, contando com a ajuda de diversos autores, como François Choay, Moreno-Navarro e Helena Barranha, para compreender o conceito de património, em especial o arquitetónico, assim como os valores associados a este. Na questão do entendimento para a noção da habitação operária, Manuel Teixeira, foi sem dúvida crucial, ajudando na compreensão destas construções a nível local e social. Toda esta pesquisa foi complementada com a análise de estudo de casos de referência, que de um modo ou de outro influenciaram para a escolha da aplicação no projeto de estudo, a “Ilha” da Capela. Quando, no caso de estudo, é feito uma investigação aprofundada das fragilidades e potencialidades sujeitas ao mesmo, associadas a uma pesquisa feita sobre ações que devem ser tomadas neste património, nomeadamente consolidação, reabilitação, renovação, revitalização e conservação preventiva, servindo-se do conjunto em si para gerar novas oportunidades, vivências e tradições, entendemos que é possível, na atualidade, habitar em construções outrora destinadas à classe operária, sem mínimas condições de habitabilidade, mas com as devidas ações executadas e seguindo uma intervenção adequada, é possível trasnmitir testemunhos deste património que são as “ilhas”.

Abstract: The present dissertation translates into the investigation of how to intervene in the ruined architectural heritage, more specifically in a housing complex in the city of Porto, called “ilha”, and to understand how these can be adapted to contemporary living. For this, it was necessary to study the characteristics of the “ilhas” in order to understand what are the best actions and intervention model to impose on this heritage, with the help of several authors, such as François Choay, Moreno-Navarro and Helena Barranha, to understand the concept of heritage, especially architectural, as well as the values associated with it. In terms of understanding the notion of workers housing, Manuel Teixeira was undoubtedly crucial, helping to understand these constructions at the local and social level. All this research was complemented with the analysis of case studies of reference, which in one way or another influenced the choice of application in the study project, the “Ilha” da Capela. When, in the case of the study, an in-depth investigation is made of the weaknesses and potentialities subject to it, associated with a research carried out on actions that must be taken in this heritage, namely consolidation, rehabilitation, renovation, revitalization and preventive conservation, using the as a whole to generate new opportunities, experiences and traditions, we understand that it is possible, at present, to live in buildings that were formerly intended for the working class, without minimum conditions of habitability, but with the necessary actions carried out and following an appropriate intervention, it is possible to transmit testimonies of this heritage that are the “ilhas”.
