Casa Gallo, a reference work by architect Manuel Tainha, will be the object of study of this dissertation, where it is sought to understand the line of thought concept taken into account by the architect in the cultural and political environment of that time. In a first phase, it is investigated based on the theory of Modern Architecture as a world reference, based on Alvar Aalto and Frank Lloyd Wright, who, in my opinion, went key architects in the process of developing the space, way of thinking and the relation of the project with the surroundings that the architect Tainha looked for and defended. Then focused on architecture in Portugal, it is intended to contextualize political and culturally the architectural environment lived since the beginning of the 20st century until the 60’s, trying to understand how their principles evolved over time and their contributions to the theme of the quality of architecture in general, being this period paradigm of the modern, a period of great trials and urban and architectural innovations. Secondly, the life and work of the author of Casa Gallo, architect Manuel Tainha, thinker and teacher, reference as man of the seven crafts, and his reaction to the modern, from which the concept of architectural quality has gained a new meaning is studied. Finally, it is investigating the case study, Casa Gallo and its design strategy associated with modern architecture, how it was able to respond to the needs of its inhabitants and how its spatial composition shaped the experience in it.-
