Modernizar o passado, salvaguardando o espírito do lugar

Abstract

O que faz com que um edifício seja único mesmo rodeado de outros em tudo semelhante? O que faz de um espaço um lugar único quando ele é também uma continuidade de outros edifícios? Esse é o tema abordado nesta dissertação que visa perceber e explicar o que é denominado por Genius loci/Espirito do lugar. A expressão, Genius loci/Espirito do lugar, é aquilo que torna um edifício em lugar, é o que atribui ambiente, que por si só é similar a tantos outros. O vivido, as cores, as memórias, tornam esse lugar diferente e uno de tudo. Esta dissertação foca-se na dificuldade de intervir num espaço tão característico, sem nunca desprezar nem esquecer o seu vivido, e pelo povo do meio em que se insere, são elementos fundamentais a analisar aquando a intervenção num edifico/património, quer tenha mais ou menos importância, assim sendo, a presente dissertação foca-se nesse respeito para com a sua preservação fazendo disso o elemento chave a nunca descurar quando se trata e se intervém em edificado com tanto peso sentimental. A preservação de um legado histórico, o respeito pelas tradições Sendo o conceito de património um conceito evolutivo é importante compreender a sua flexibilidade em aceitar novos elementos, dada a natureza evolutiva das intervenções arquitectónicas. Quando intervirmos num edifício é importante manter vivo o espírito do lugar, pois é esse espírito que vai manter vivo as memórias e a identidade daquele espaço. É o espírito que o vai classificar como lugar e não como mais um espaço, sem carácter, sem identidade, sem significado, sem orientação…sem espírito.

What makes a building to be unique even surrounded by others similar on everything? What makes a space an unique place when it also is a continuance of other buildings? That is the subject addressed on this essay that aims to understand and explain what is so-called Genius loci/Place’s Spirit. The expression, Genius loci/Place’s Spirit, is what turns a building into place, is what gives atmosphere, which by itself is only similar to many others. The loved, the colors, the memories, make that place different and unique from everything. This essay focus on the difficulty to intervene on such a characteristic space, without never despising neither forgetting its living, and by the people of the community that it is inserted, they are key elements to analyze on the moment of the intervention on a building/estate, whether it has more or less importance, therefore, the present essay focus over that issue about its preservation making that a key element to never be neglected when it is about and intervenes on a building with such sentimental value. The preservation of an historical legacy, the respect for the traditions. As the concept of estate is an evolutionary concept, it is important to understand its flexibility to accept new elements, given the evolutionary nature of the architectural interventions. When one intervenes on a building it is important to keep alive the spirit of the place, because that is that spirit that will keep the memories alive and the identity of that place. It is the spirit that will classify it as place and not as another space, without character, without identity, without meaning, without guidance… without spirit.
