Reconversão de espaços industriais : Escola de Artes na Fábrica do Cavalinho, Guimarães

Abstract

Os espaços industriais, fruto da evolução tecnológica e das opções estratégicas tem sofrido uma mudança de paradigma, esta mudança obriga muitas vezes à procura de novos espaços o que conduz a espaços obsoletos e ostracizados e em constante degradação. Em paralelo, derivado do crescimento urbano verifica-se que muitas vezes estes espaços se encontram nos centros urbanos, marcando e alterando a paisagem onde estão inseridos, tanto a nível físico como social e portanto é urgente repensar estes espaços. Posto isto a presente dissertação tem como tema o estudo da reconversão de espaços industriais que se tornaram obsoletos, e repensar estes espaços como espaços expectáveis de uma nova função de modo a serem integrados de novo na vida urbana. Como tal é necessário o correcto enquadramento e desta forma abordamos a evolução histórica da indústria e enquadramos o património industrial. Para melhor compreender esta temática recorremos a projectos referência que consideramos relevantes e onde estivessem patentes atitudes perante o património industrial semelhante à nossa. O objectivo deste estudo era recolher e assimilar informações e conhecimento sobre intervenções, mais propriamente reconversões em património industrial de forma a fornecer-nos boas práticas e orientar-nos na nossa intervenção na Fábrica do cavalinho em Guimarães, convertida numa escola de artes. A nossa intervenção tinha uma premissa que era respeitar e valorizar o passado industrial e posto isto, todas as opções tomadas submetiam-se a este objectivo, desde a volumetria, os materiais e os sistema construtivo. Com a realização desta dissertação tornou-se perceptível que o interesse sobre este tipo de património tem aumentado embora ainda haja um longo caminho a percorrer na sensibilização para o património industrial. Tornou-se também claro que estes espaços têm uma predisposição para a sua reconversão uma vez que permite a adaptação a vários usos, embora a tendência seja para usos culturais.

Industrial spaces, the result of technological developments and strategic options has undergone a paradigm shift, this change forces often looking for new spaces leading to obsolete and ostracized spaces and constant degradation. In parallel, derived from urban growth turns out that often these spaces are in urban centers, mark and alter the landscape in which they live, both physically and socially and is therefore urgent to rethink these spaces. Having said that this thesis has as its theme the study of the conversion of industrial spaces that have become obsolete, and rethink these spaces as expected space a new function in order to be integrated in the new urban life. As such you need the right framework and thus address the historical evolution of the industry and we fit the industrial heritage. To better understand this issue we use the reference projects that we considered relevant and where patents were attitudes towards industrial heritage similar to ours. The purpose of this study was to gather and assimilate information and knowledge about interventions, more specifically retrofits in industrial heritage in order to provide us best pratices and guide us in our intervention in Cavalinho factory in Guimarães, converted into an arts school. Our intervention had a premise that is to respect and value the industrial past and put it all choices made subjected to this, since the volumes, the materials used and the construction system. With the completion of this work it has become apparent that the interest in this type of heritage has increased although there is still a long way to go in raising awareness of the industrial heritage. It also became clear that these areas have a predisposition to their conversion since it allows to adapt it to various usages, although the trend is for cultural purposes.
