This dissertation studies the Alentejo Town Halls, heritage buildings that serve as the headquarters of municipality and, through their presence in urban centres, are part of the collective memory and cultural identity of the communities. These buildings represent architectural forms rooted in municipal traditions and are characterized by morphotypological elements specific to the Alentejo urban landscape. The main objective of this research is to identify the origins and, formal and functional characteristics of the Town Hall Houses, analysing their evolution over time and recognizing their historical, cultural, and architectural values. Based on this knowledge, the aim is to define an intervention methodology that allows for a balanced rehabilitation of these buildings, respecting their material authenticity and ensuring their adaptation to contemporary functional demands. As a practical application of the proposed methodology, the rehabilitation project of the Monforte Town Hall is presented. This intervention seeks to update the building's functional program and respond to identified pathologies, while remaining consistent with the original structure and materiality. The proposal incorporates forms and materials compatible with the existing structure, ensuring the stability of the complex and promoting the preservation of its cultural significance. The essay confirms that it is possible to intervene in built heritage with sensitivity and rigor, safeguarding the values of the past and projecting the functional continuity of these spaces into the present. The study reinforces the importance of recognizing and valuing the municipal building as an integral part of the Alentejo cultural landscape, demonstrating that rehabilitation can add new layers of meaning without compromising the cultural significance of the heritage.pt_PT
