Blue bonds e investimento marinho e oceânico sustentável

Abstract

Os ‘blue bonds’ são um novo e promissor instrumento financeiro que procura conciliar benefícios económicos e melhoria do ambiente marinho e costeiro. O presente artigo aborda os seguintes temas: (i) as diferentes experiências e respetivos resultados; (ii) os principais países e organizações intervenientes; (iii) a distribuição geográfica das emissões de ‘blue bonds’ realizadas até hoje; (iv) o papel fundamental que a União Europeia tem vindo a assumir nas emissões de ‘blue bonds’ a nível mundial e na respetiva regulamentação; (v) principais explicações teóricas quanto à forma como crescimento económico e proteção ambiental evoluem ‘espontaneamente’, (vi) perspetivas futuras dos ‘blue bonds’.

‘Blue bonds’ are a new and promising financial instrument that seeks to reconcile economic benefits and improvements to the marine and coastal environment. The article addresses the following topics: (i) the different experiences and respective results carried out to date; (ii) the main countries and organisations involved; (iii) the geographical distribution of blue bond issuances made to date; (iv) the fundamental role that the European Union has been assuming in the issuance of ‘blue bonds’ worldwide and in their respective regulation; (v) main theoretical explanations as to how economic growth and environmental protection evolve ‘spontaneously’, (vi) future prospects for ‘blue bonds’.
