Tendo em consideração, o atual cenário de transformações geopolíticas, Portugal permanece como um Estado-membro comprometido da OTAN, apesar do desinvestimento dos EUA na Base das Lajes. A invasão russa da Ucrânia de 2022 teve como consequência direta o robustecimento da Aliança Atlântica no Leste Europeu, o que pode contribuir para a redefinição a posição portuguesa no seio da Aliança Atlântica e fortalecer o pilar europeu da OTAN. Pretendemos efetuar uma análise realista neoclássica sobre as oportunidades e as ameaças para a posição portuguesa no seio da OTAN, que podem redefinir o papel de Portugal nas relações transatlânticas num futuro próximo.; This research aims to analyse the Portuguese position in the Atlantic Alliance in the face of the new challenges posed by the strategic withdrawal of the USA, due to the Chinese rise in the Asia-Pacific region, and its consequences for the future of NATO. Considering the current scenario of geopolitical transformations, Portugal remains a committed member state of NATO, despite the US divestment in the Lajes Base. The Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 had as a direct consequence the strengthening of the Atlantic Alliance in Eastern Europe, which could contribute to redefining the Portuguese position within the Atlantic Alliance and strengthening the European pillar of NATO. We intend to carry out a neoclassical realistic analysis of the opportunities and threats for the Portuguese position within NATO, which could redefine Portugal’s role in transatlantic relations soom.
