Os tipos de interesse nacional aqui abordados são definidos por Hans Morgenthau e Michael Roskin, que entende que um país que não defina, de forma adequada, os seus interesses, deixa a sua política externa sem estrutura, e como consequência é pouco competitiva na arena internacional. Portanto, a fim de evitar uma abordagem ad hoc da execução da política externa portuguesa, Salazar definiu as bases da política externa portuguesa que o Estado Novo viria a executar até à queda do regime.; The purpose of this article is to provide a notion about the concept of national interest, and at the same time, to examine the options that the Salazar’s regime is faced with when defining the portuguese national interest. The types of national interest discussed here are defined by Hans Morgenthau and Michael Roskin, who understands that a country that does not adequately define its interests leaves its foreign policy without structure, and consequently it is not very competitive in the international arena. Therefore, to avoid an ad hoc approach to the execution of portuguese foreign policy, Salazar defined the bases of the portuguese foreign policy that the Estado Novo would carry out until the fall of the regime. Likewise, it ensures the absence of controls on people at internal borders and develops a common policy on asylum, immigration and control of external borders, as well as guaranteeing a high level of security, through measures to prevent crime and to combat these phenomena, through measures of coordination and cooperation between police and judicial authorities.
