    <description>Título: Waste collection vehicle routing problem considering similarity pattern of trashcan and garbage unloading
Autor: Fooladi, Somayeh; Fazlollahtabar, Hamed; Mahdavi, Iraj
Resumo: Rapid urbanization poses a serious environmental threat of solid waste management (SWM) and reverse supply chain. In this paper, a mathematical model is proposed in order to reduce the cost of waste collection and transporting for recycling process. First a mixed-integer nonlinear programming model is provided including a waste collection routing problem and the following processes after garbage unloading, so that, there is a balance between the distance between trashcans, and the similarity of the trashcans in terms of the types of waste which is in the trashcans, in order to select the optimal route for each garbage transport vehicles. For this purpose, a similarity pattern is designed. By following the similarity pattern for route selection, recovery rate of waste will be increased being shown in the model. Then, we solved the model by using LINGO 0.9 software and analyze the output results of solved model.

    <description>Título: Choosing a university in Portugal : a conceptual model
Autor: Queijo, Elisete de Fátima; Silva, Rui Vinhas da; Laureano, Raul Manuel Silva
Resumo: This study, based on the scientific domains of Consumer Behavior (decision-making process) and Brand Reputation perception, aims to check if Tourism is the key influencer or only a part of the set of components in the choice of a university in Portugal. The marketing mix (4 Ps) was the strategy chosen for the construction of the model and the parametric tests and the Logit Model are the statistical approaches suggested in this study. The limitations lie in the scarce literature on the subject and difficulty to access Academic Tourism data in Portugal and its economic representativeness. This knowledge will define the real factors involving choosing a university abroad and complete the literature with a Portuguese experience. The practical result is to present a strategic marketing guide for companies aiming at working with academic tourism, a booming segment in recent years.

    <title>A benchmarking study on organizational creativity practices in high tecnology industries</title>

    <description>Título: A benchmarking study on organizational creativity practices in high tecnology industries
Autor: Sousa, Fernando Cardoso de; Monteiro, Ileana Pardal
Resumo: The aim of this article is to provide a benchmarking list of initiatives that deal with the development of corporate or organizational creativity and innovation in the emerging sectors of bio-technology, nano-technologies, information and communication technologies, and eco-innovation, together with companies of other sectors, perceived as good examples of organizational innovation.&#xD;
Twenty one interviews were conducted with top management in these organizations. The interviews were made by telephone, addressing specific strategies in three domains: creative management, creative people management, and creativity management. Results indicate that high technology organizations, dependent upon financial support, do not seem to concentrate on corporate innovation, and do not have alternatives to budget reductions made in R&amp;D, due to the present financial crisis, in order to innovate. The remaining companies provided several suggestions as to the way corporate innovation systems can be built and sustained within the framework of the future European innovation policies, devoted to workforce development, the service sector and the SMEs.

    <title>Operations management and marketing in the vending machines sector in Portugal</title>
    <link>http://hdl.handle.net/11067/1380</link>
    <description>Título: Operations management and marketing in the vending machines sector in Portugal
Autor: Santos, Telma; Silva, Ângela Maria Esteves da; Reis, Raquel
Resumo: Vending machines have emerged from the ‘self-service’ concept, being located in a particular place, making available to potential customers food, hot and cold drinks, among other products. These machines are prepared for processing a transaction, through customer’s payment, without personal attendance and with the condition of satisfying an order of the client.&#xD;
Nowadays, due to people’s lifestyle, these machines are located in several strategic places, namely hospitals, schools, companies, with the most varied and diverse products. Lack of time is common in everyday life, people not wanting to wait in queues. Thus, vending machines are each time more appealing for several customers’ segments. The market of vending machines has been increasing at an accelerated rate, becoming a tendency in marketing. Moreover, these machines have more and more an attractive and modern design. Therefore, operations management and marketing are complementary concepts regarding vending machines, being part of its management process, and always having in mind customers’ needs.&#xD;
This research aims to explore the vending machines concept in all its phases. In Operations Management, regarding the planning and supply chain management of products, markets, targets, quality and employees’ training. In addition, regarding the vending machine itself, it is important to note that operations include the maintenance management, the information system used and the response to new technologies.&#xD;
Marketing, on the other side, is responsible for identifying customers’ needs and expectations, planning all the strategies / promotions in the acquisition and sale of products. The installation of a vending machine, if well planned, can be part of a well defined marketing strategy, aiming to reinforce the brand power and its impact in achieving the target and consequent sales development.&#xD;
Having in mind both the research aim and the different customer’s profiles of vending machines, this study employs triangulation, mixing qualitative and quantitative methods. Initially, four focus groups will be conducted, two in a university and two in a secondary school, both in the North of Portugal. In a later stage, a quantitative study, via questionnaire, will be conducted within the same institutions. The selection of these groups was made in order to understand the preferences and use of vending machines in different contexts and ages. Moreover, both groups, from secondary schools and universities, are key customers of vending machines.&#xD;
Summarizing, this working paper attempts to assess the requirements and different perspectives on the selected products, quality, diversity, cost, machine design, handling, potential problems, customer needs and satisfaction and other aspects that may emerge in the focus groups.
