The concept of quality of life is not considered a recent term, since the 60's had been carried out the first investigations, due to the need to study the various factors involved in this issue, taking into account not only the economic wellbeing and financial, but also physical, mental, social or other well-being.. Studying the quality of children's life with special educational needs is a great challenge because of the strong heterogeneity of the group and due to the implications/ adaptations that the condition entails in the different contexts that the child integrates. Thus, the present research intends to analyze the perception of the parents about the quality of life of the children with special educational needs (SEN). For data collection, sociodemographic and two instruments were used. The KIDSCREEN-10 instrument is one of those, proposed by The KIDSCREEN Group Europe (2006) and validated for the Portuguese population by Gaspar and his collaborators (2008), allowed to measure the children's quality of life perceived by the children themselves. Was also used the instrument EMBU-P is the other, the portuguese version of the scale Egna Minnen Betraffande Uppfostran - Parents version, validated for the Portuguese population by Canavarro and Pereira (2007) with the objective of evaluating parental studies through parental perception. In this study, 855 mothers and 241 fathers, with children between the ages of 6 and 16 years, totaling 1096 parents were included. Participants were selected according to the following inclusion criteria: (a) to be a parent, and (b) to have a child between the ages of 6 and 16 years old. The results generally showed that parents' perception of children's QoL varies according to the child's age, the parents' marital status and the parents' socioeconomic situation. In particular, parents who have children with special educational needs have a greater realization that they have less time for themselves, compared to those who do not have children with SEN. There was a close relationship of QoL to the dimensions of parenting: emotional support, rejection and attempted control, as well as the existence of children with SEN.pt_PT
