Autor: Lima, Rui Manuel Dias Ferreira
Resumo: This paper describes a new system support for urban computing, designated as RFIDcaching hunting game. The research focus on how the mobile users can interact with each other when they walk through a city with embedded RFID technologies. Situated displays are used to present graphical information collected by users and to motivate the interaction in the urban environment. Middleware infrastructure is minimized in order to achieve a high level of sustainability and is centred on webservices and database systems, accessed from mobile devices.

Autor: Patel, N.D.; Deheri, G.M.
Resumo: This study aims to analyze the performance of a transversely rough porous parallel slider bearing under the presence of a magnetic fluid lubricant flowing as par Shliomis model, taking velocity slip in to account. The associated stochastically averaged Reynolds equation is solved to get the pressure distribution thereby leading to the calculation of load carrying capacity. Further, the friction is computed. THe results show that magnetization not only increases the load carrying capacity but also increases the friction. But the slip parameter decreases the load carrying capacity as well as the friction. Besides, it is noticed that the standarddeviation and the positively skewed roughness decrease the friction. It becomes clear from this investigation that the magnetization can minimize the adverse effect of roughness up to some extent when relatively small values of the slip parameter are involved. A comparison of this investigation with the Neuringer-Rosensweig model indicates that the reduction of the adverse effect of roughness is comparatively more here. This article makes it clear that the bearing can support a load even where there is no flow.

Autor: Martins, Cecília Maria Alves Torres; Oliveira, Carlos; Gonçalves, José
Resumo: This paper presents an emergy-based evaluation of the required Portugal resources inputs for the years 2000, 2005 and 2009. The main objective is to provide comprehensive emergy measures which seek to integrate the accountability values of all economic and environmental work contributions to annual national activities. Emergy (from embodied energy) was defined by Odum as being the available energy of one kind of previously used up directly or indirectly to make a service or product. The emergy methodology employed, based on existing statistical data, deals with energy systems and amplifies the perspective of analysis by extending it to the wider level of biosphere, by including all the processes that are involved in the formation of system inputs, either being devices of material, energy or money flows. Attention is given to emergy assigned to flow s of local renewable resources (R), local nonrenewable resources (N), imported resources (IMP) and exported resources (EXP). Results show a decline in the total amount of annual emergy required to support the country's activities (U) in 2009 relative to 2000 and as emergy per capita also decreased, it might indicates that the population wellbeing in 2009 might be inferior to the level attained in 2000, as less resources from the geobiosphere were invested in each person. Emergy from local nonrenewable flows was the major contribution to total emergy, and in period, more emergy was exported than imported. The contribution of the renewable emergy flow (R) is almost unchanged over time, contributing with approximately 4.5% of the total emergy, what questions the Portuguese government's efforts to reinforce the use of renewable energies.

Resumo: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship of the consumer perceptions about the branding of organizations that invest in social responsibility and the consumer behaviour regarding loyalty and willingness in paying a premium price. Reviewing the literature about Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Corporate Social Performance and Corporate Financial Performance, some questions a rise: do consumers understand the efforts made by businesses regarding their social and ethical campaigns? And if so, are consumers willing to pay a higher price for the products and services resulting from these social and ethical campaigns? Are consumers loyal to these businesses? In order to analyse the links between CSR and consumer behaviour, the authors use a structural equations model and a Focus Group. The "Nespresso" Case is analysed and included in the survey questions, since it is a very well known brand amongst Portuguese consumers. The main conclusions of the paper are that although some of the indicators do not present excellent results, the hypotheses tested, in the structural equation model, were verified. As such, we can conclude that social responsibility policies are important in building a strong brand image and in turn lead to consumer loyalty and consequent availability to pay a higher price for the products or services provided. Within the focus group some interesting findings arise regarding the links between CSR, brand image, loyalty and willingness in paying a premium price. There are indicators that although, CSR is considered important for building loyalty, the links regarding the willingness in paying a premium price are thin. Another finding is that communication policies don't address the consumer concerns regarding CSR.
